Turning 21 is a milestone birthday—it’s not just about legally drinking, but a transition to adulthood. With more freedom than at 18, it’s a significant occasion worth celebrating. My daughter is turning 21 this March, a birthday she’s been anticipating since starting college. She’s probably had her first drink already, but what better way to celebrate than wine in a glitter wine glass?
This post is how I created a glitter wine glass and bottle for my daughter’s 21st birthday.

1 | Gather Your Supplies
Before you start the glitter wine glass, make sure you have everything you need. Here is a list of the supplies I used:
Plain wine glass (Dollar Store)
Roll of Craft Paper (Dollar Store)
Rubbing Alcohol
Cotton Balls
Paint Brushes (Michael’s®)
Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge (Michael’s®)
Fine Glitter (Michael’s®)
Plastic Food Container
Parchment Paper
Blue Painter’s Tape (Dollar Store)
Permanent Vinyl (Michael’s®)
Ruler
Dry Erase Marker
X-acto Knife

Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Waterbased Sealer, Glue and Finish (8-Ounce), CS15059 Gloss, 8 Ounce

FolkArt Plaid Nylon Brush Set, 50559 Brown (3-Piece)

Extra Fine Glitter by Recollections™, 1.5oz. Bubblegum
2 | Set Up a Work Station
Before starting the glitter wine glass project, I covered a large section of my countertop with kraft paper. I opened my glitter bottle, shook up my Mod Podge and found a large plastic container to catch the glitter. Line the bottom of the container with parchment paper to easily transfer the glitter back to the bottle.

3 | Tape Off the Wine Glass
First, use a dry erase marker to draw a line all the way around the glass. Place the pen on a raised, flat surface and turn the glass while marking an even line around the glass. Second, Add a small dot to the top line and another dot on the on the same line, directly across. Then measure down 2.5″ and place a second dot below the first dot. Take a strip of painter’s tape and place above the top dot on the opposite side. Apply tape moving downward until you reach the second dot on the opposite side. Continue the same process on the other side until the tape overlaps. Use your knife to carefully slice off the excess tape.

4 | Prep Your Glitter Wine Glass
Before you start, you will need to prepare your glitter wine glass so it is free of any residue. Take a cotton ball and soak with some rubbing alcohol to clean the external surface of your glass. The rubbing alcohol will also remove the dot you placed on the glass as a marker.

5 | Apply a Thin Coat of Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge
Pour some Mod Podge into a small container, you don’t need a lot. Take your brush and start applying the Mod Podge all over the taped off wine glass. Smooth it out the best you can or the glitter will clump.

6 | Coat Entire Wine Glass With Glitter
With your hand inside the glass, hold over your plastic bin while lightly coating all areas with glitter. Shake the excess off into the container lined with parchment paper. Remove the tape while your glass is still wet. Set your glitter wine glass aside to dry for at least an hour or two.

Pick up the parchment paper and pour the excess glitter back into the bottle. While waiting for your glitter wine glass to dry, wash out your brush before you start the next layer.

7 | Apply a Second Coat to Your Glitter Wine Glass
Repeat the previous step, brushing Mod Podge near the edge without going over it. Hold the glass over a container and gently apply glitter to all areas, then shake off the excess.
Set your glass aside and allow to dry another 1–2 hours and repeat again if you wish. My glitter wine glass has three layers of glitter.

Apply one last coat of Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge to your wine glass. It goes on white, but don’t worry, it will dry clear. I let the glass dry a full 24 hours before the next step.
8 | Apply Permanent Vinyl Decal to the Glitter Wine Glass
I designed a 1″ high decal and cut it from silver glitter permanent vinyl using my Cricut cutting machine. After removing the excess vinyl, I applied transfer tape to the decal. Next, I carefully centered the “21” decal between the top of the glass and the edge of the glitter. Finally, after pressing it onto the glass, I carefully removed the transfer tape.

And that’s it—so simple and fun to make! Just be sure to let the glass dry for 30 days before washing to make sure it’s fully cured.
9 | Create a Matching Glitter Wine Bottle
Simply repeat steps 1–7. I taped off the label so she would know what type of wine it was. After letting the bottle dry for 24 hours, I added rhinestones around the bottle neck and label.

I absolutely love how beautiful this gift turned out—perfect for any 21-year-old! CLICK HERE to see the alcohol cake tower I made along with this gift.
