A 21st birthday is a milestone in every college student’s life. Finally, the right to buy and consume alcoholic beverages and be recognized as an adult. An alcohol cake tower is the perfect surprise to welcome a twenty one-year-old to adulthood.
My daughter turned 21 in March and I wanted to do something really special for her birthday. She came home on her birthday weekend, so I made this 21 and over gift to surprise her.
This post is about how to make an alcohol cake tower for a 21st birthday.

1 | Gather Supplies to Make an Alcohol Cake Tower
To start, you will need 8″, 10″ and 12″ white round cake boards. Also needed are two packages of Plastic Dowel Rods, artificial flowers from the Dollar Tree, a glue gun and ribbon. Optional items include rhinestones and Jewel-It.

2 | Glue Three Cake Boards Together
To start the alcohol cake tower, I glued three 12″ cake boards together for extra support. Next I glued the three 10″ boards together and finally the three 8″ boards together.

3 | Cut Plastic Dowel Rods to Size
To make a reusable Alcohol cake tower, you can use plastic dowels. First, I measured the cans so I knew how high each section should be. Next I measured the dowels and marked them at about a half inch taller than the cans. Finally, I used a serrated knife to score the dowels so they easily broke to size. You can also use a mini hacksaw to cut the dowels.

4 | Glue Ribbon to Bottom Cake Board
Glue the ribbon to the outside of the bottom cake board so it covers up the edge.

I used Jewel-it to glue some rhinestones to the the ribbon to add a little sparkle.

5 | Attach Flowers to The Alcohol Cake Tower Boards
Attach the faux flowers to the top two tiers of the cake boards using a glue gun. The faux flowers were bought at the Dollar Store.

6 | Glue Plastic Dowel Rods in Place
Take four plastic dowel rods and glue to the bottom cake board. Make sure they are close to the center so the cans will fit outside the dowels.

Next, glue the other two cake boards to the plastic dowel rods to finish the alcohol cake tower.

7 | Secure Cans to Bottom Two Tiers of the Alcohol Cake Tower
I bought several flavors of hard seltzers which included Carbliss and High Noon. Starting with the empty cake tower, I glued the cans to the cake boards so they would stay in place.

8 | Top Alcohol Cake Tower with a Mini Cake and Candles
A mini chocolate cake was the perfect topper and adding silver candles was the final touch.

This alcohol cake tower turned out better than I thought it would. It was the perfect centerpiece between pink balloons, a glitter wine glass and bottle. CLICK HERE to find out how I made the Glitter Wine Glass and Wine Bottle.
