Upcycle wine bottles into decor that you can use for any holiday or occasion. Upcycling wine bottles is a not only eco-friendly, but also a fun way to create beautiful, meaningful decor. You can easily transform wine bottles into candle holders and vases.
After our New Years Eve party, we had several empty beer and wine bottles ready for the recycle bin. Instead of recycling them, I decided to upcycle the wine bottles into decor I can switch out for the holidays.
This post is all about how I upcycle wine and beer bottles into Valentine’s Day decor.

1 | Gather Your Supplies
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need. Some supplies include rubbing alcohol, a Magic Eraser, cotton balls, vinyl decals and spray paint. Wine Bottle Candles or Fairy Lights are the perfect additions to your new upcycled wine bottle decor.

2 | Remove Wine Bottle Labels Easily with This Trick
Before you start creating your upcycled wine bottle decor, you need to remove the label from the bottles. First, arrange some bottles in a large pot while you are boiling water. Second, take a small funnel and pour the boiling water all the way to the top of each bottle. Third, let the hot water sit in the bottle for at least 30 minutes.

3 | Remove the Label from the Wine Bottle
Pour the water out and start removing the label by gently pealing the labels off each bottle. The boiling water heats up the glue, so the label easily lifts off the bottle.

4 | Prep the Wine Bottle Before Painting
If there is a little adhesive left on the bottle, use a magic eraser to remove it. You can also try some Goo-gone to get rid of the remaining adhesive. Next, soak a cotton ball or paper towel in rubbing alcohol. Wipe your wine bottle to remove any oils or residue. As a result, you now have a clean surface for painting. Make sure the bottle is completely dry before you spray paint.

4 | Spray Paint the Upcycled Wine Bottles in Holiday Colors
ColorShot spray paint is awesome. The colors are beautiful. The paint dries fast, provides even coverage, and is also Eco-conscious. I sprayed each bottle with three coats, allowing an hour in between coats. Leave the bottles to dry completely for about 24 hours. Then decorate your upcycled wine bottles by adding twine and CriCut vinyl designs.

5 | Add Vinyl Designs to the Reused Wine Bottles
Use a CriCut or other cutting machine to cut your design out of adhesive backed permanent vinyl. Weed any of the excess pieces so only the image is left. Add the transfer tape. Place the sticky side on top of your artwork. Then burnish the transfer tape to the decal. Carefully peel back the transfer tape with the decal attached. Line up your artwork on the bottle and press to adhere. Gently peel back the transfer tape from your newly upcycled wine bottle.

6 | Seal the Paint and Vinyl
Sealing your painted bottle will help to avoid paint chips. Additionally, it will provide a protective layer, ensuring the design lasts longer. Spray a thin coat of Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer to your upcycled wine bottle, it dries clear. Allow your upcycled wine bottle to dry completely; then, continue decorating for Valentine’s Day.

7 | Showcase Your Upcycled Wine Bottles for Valentine’s Day
Display your new Valentine’s Day decor. Add some candles, faux floral or lights.
